Sony released a 2GB Digital MP3 Player or Personal Media Player - Rolly, with 2GB storage unit. It is a new aspect in MP3 Players that brings the users nearer to their favorite music.

This robotic device plays back music and can be programmed to dance to any of the music uploaded to it.

The two wheels that surround the body allow the unit to roll around as well as wiggle and spin. Under darkness, this player outlines the glowing light that covers the circular borders, which highlights this entertainer.

Rolly is been unleashed in White and Black color designed in an egg-shaped model with the battery life of five hours which is a substandard for a typical 2GB digital MP3 player.

It’s also a glorified MP3 player that’ll set you back a startling price. (One fluttering motion is distinctly “jazz hands”.) The Rolly can dance to any song loaded on the device based on song analysis, but this is a little underwhelming.

The wheels work differently depending on whether the Rolly is resting horizontally on a surface or held vertically in your hand (it uses Sony’s G-Sensor technology to sense positioning).

As far as usability goes, the Rolly is unsurprisingly atypical. Once the device is on, you click play once to listen to music or twice quickly to activate the motion along with the audio playback.

Rolly can analyze all the music it plays and create motion sequences to match accordingly. With the Bluetooth capability, this player can play music wirelessly from other devices such as your mobile phone or PC.

When you’re holding the 2GB digital MP3 player, the top ring skips tracks and folders while the bottom adjusts volume.

Finally, there’s the matter of sound quality, an important consideration in any music device. The built-in soft dome speakers feature neodymium magnets and this combined with the speaker flaps directs sound and conveys the shape of the sound by reflecting it from surfaces.

Overall, music sounds pretty good but not great; the 2GB digital MP3 player suffers like many other speakers of this size from shallow sounding audio. But then how many portable speaker/MP3 player/robotic eggs dance to your music?
